Spruce View Charolais was established in 1984 with the purchase of 6 French influenced cows. Over the years through heifer retention and acquiring females through dispersions and production sales the numbers rapidly grew together with a small herd of commercial females.
Since establishment we participated in bull test station trials at the Alberta Charolais Test in Innisfail as well as at Lakeland College in Vermilion. By participating in these test stations, we quickly learned the feed efficiencies between various bloodlines.
Since our calving begins in April, we are strictly a long yearling bull supplier and have one of the largest 2 yr. old bull offerings with 50-60 bulls for offer yearly. We feel our clientele prefer the extra aged bulls which can service more females without loosing much condition.
We listen to our clients who advise us what type of animal they are looking for in their operations. Thus, we breed our females to suit the demands with the use of Polled, Full French and Red Factor sires. Over the decades we have been so fortunate to team up with fellow breeders on some elite sires either through semen interests or walking rights.
In order to share our genetic program, we have tried to consign top females into various fall female sales as well as selling packages off the farm. This has allowed us to get to meet so many great people in the Charolais industry.
On the third Saturday of March yearly, we host an annual bull sale at North Central Livestock, Clyde named Northern Impact Charolais Bull Sale.
Our farm is located 3 miles south and ¾ miles west of Andrew, Alta on Hwy 855 or 16 miles north and ¾ west of Mundare on Hwy 855. Our operation is solely run by our family. This includes my wife Effie, son Lyle, daughter Larissa and her husband Matt.
Please feel free to call or stop by anytime. We’d enjoy your visit and be happy to show you our herd.
